Black mark: 20.60 in 50 free at Vernon Hills
Mundelein senior Connor Black broke an Olympian’s pool record at Vernon Hills on Wednesday night.
Leading off the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Stanford-bound Black covered his 50 yards in 20.60 seconds. Former Lake Forest star and 2012 Olympian Matt Grevers clocked a 20.66 in 2003.
“Pretty cool,” said coach Rahul Sethna, whose Mundelein squad defeated the host Cougars 118-67 in a North Suburban Conference meet.
Art Kasemets, Nick Arendt and Jason Rehor joined Black on the 200 free relay, which won in a time of 1:32.18. Mundelein captured the 400 free relay with Black, Mark Betti, Chris Starck and Jude Krauss (3:36.06).
Mundelein’s 200 medley relay team of Black, Jason Begrowicz, Jason White and Stark started the meet by swimming a winning time of 1:52.28.
Kasemets won a pair of individual events, the 200 free (1:52.92) and 100 backstroke (1:00.01). Other individual event winners for the Mustangs were Black in the 200 individual medley (1:54.57), Arendt in the 100 butterfly (1:03.04), Rehor in the 100 freestyle (54.04) and John Brueckbauer in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.26).
Vernon Hills got wins from Sean Pinter in the 50 free (24.13), Brian Rabinowitz in the 500 free (5:25.42) and Alex Zuniga in diving (244.85 points).
