Smart Farm's 2013 Frozen Zucchini Snowshoe Adventure

Smart Farm’s 3rd Annual Frozen Zucchini will take place at Citizens Park in Barrington, IL on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. This event is a great way to enjoy fun wintertime outdoor activity while supporting a worthy local non-profit organization. Individuals of all ages and experience are welcome. Lots of prizes, including over $1,000.00 worth of gift certificates, and goodie bags loaded with lots of great winter items are available to all participants. Smart Farm’s Frozen Zucchini is co-sponsored by the Barrington Park District and Erewon Mountain Outfitter. Snowshoe rental is available.

The 5K course is located at Citizens Park, 511 Lake Zurich Road (at Route 14/Northwest Highway) in Barrington. The course will consist of an open field start to spread the racers out, then narrowing in meandering prairie and wooded trails, and finally looping back to the start. In case of no snow or minimal snow, the race will become a 5K run on the same or similar course; no fees will be refunded.

The Frozen Zucchini is an opportunity for individuals of all ages to get out and enjoy some fun outdoor winter activity while supporting Smart Farm. Smart Farm of Barrington is a local 501c-3 non-profit organization. Its mission is to cultivate a healthy community by providing educational opportunities focused on encouraging sustainable gardening techniques, promoting the benefits of sustainable gardening and donating fresh produce to support our neighbors in need. During the 2012 growing season, Smart Farm raised and donated over 1,500 pounds of produce to area food pantries.

Participants can expect close-in parking, plenty to eat and drink, including a coffee and hot chocolate station, and Smart Farm’s famous and fabulous goodie bags. Merchandise prize awards will be provided by Erewon Mountain Outfitter.
