West Chicago introduces two new communication tools
West Chicago, Illinois: November 19, 2012 – Two upgrades in communication channels between the City of West Chicago and its residents, businesses and visitors have recently launched. Sparked by a suggestion from a resident, a Community Calendar has been developed in partnership with the West Chicago Public Library, West Chicago Park District, West Chicago Fire Protection District, and schools. This one-stop-shop for community events makes it easy to navigate activities of each organization at a glance, plus provide a comprehensive calendar that contains the combined information. (Please note: information specific to individual schools should still be accessed through the individual school's calendar.)
The Community Calendar link may be found on the homepage of each participating organization's website and a drop-down menu allows the user to select specific views. Plus, a not-for-profit calendar is available to those groups wishing to promote events of citywide benefit. Those wishing to post should access the Add Event button at the top of the calendar. After submitting the completed online form which explains content criteria, appropriate events will be added to the Community Calendar.
CityBytes, an ongoing series of podcasts offer bite-sized electronic morsels of relevant information. Short 1-2 minute video clips on timely topics produced in-house with City staff in the starring role sharing information about the things that matter to residents (i.e. back to school safety tips, snow regulations etc.) By clicking the link on the Communication Channels page, those interested may enjoy the series that will begin to grow each month.
The City's Twitter account continues to grow and has proven to be a tremendous tool for staying on top of breaking news like the summer storm that ripped through West Chicago earlier this year; as well as daily reminders of meetings, city services, special events and more. The City urges residents to consider following www.twitter.com/westchicagoil to increase connectivity to the community.
Beginning in January 2013, the City will be transitioning from a print newsletter (Window to West Chicago) to an online newsletter that will offer residents the convenience of reading the latest community news with the click of a button, as well as finding back issues through a digital archive on the City's website. Both may be found on the homepage by clicking the Communication Channels link which takes the visitor to the various tools to stay connected with City news. Those wishing to receive an E-News notification with a link to Window to West Chicago, may subscribe by going to the Join Our Mailing List box, also on the homepage.
The cost-saving measure which eliminates the out-sourced printing and bulk mailing of approximately 11, 650 newsletters also provides for those who do not have access or choose not to use a computer. Copies printed in-house will be available at City Hall, the West Chicago Police Station, the West Chicago Public Library, the West Chicago Park District and the Western DuPage Chamber of Commerce.
