Prospect sets lowest nine record
One season after putting itself into the history books with a Class AA state championship, Prospect’s girls golf team continues to book more history.
On Thursday, playing the front nine at its own Mt. Prospect Golf Course, the Knights set the school record for their lowest nine-hole total.
Also, junior Kiley Walsh tied the school record for nine holes as Prospect (147) topped Hersey (186) in the Mid-Suburban League East dual meet in Mt. Prospect.
With Walsh firing a 2-under par 33, Prospect’s 147 surpassed its former mark of 151 set in 2007.
Walsh’s score was followed by teammates Ally Scaccia (even-par 35), Noreen Caporusso (39) and Isabella Flack (40).
Junior Flo Eitelbach shot a 39 to pace the Hersey.
Kiley Walsh tied her sister Allison’s school mark of 33 as the Knights have now notched more than 56 straight MSL meet wins.
“We have had a great week so far,” said Knights coach Jim Hamann, whose team is 7-0 in the MSL. “We played well on Tuesday defeating New Trier and Maine South. We played well at Palatine on Wednesday. And then (Thursday) we shoot the school record against Hersey.”
Two Knights have recorded even-par rounds the last two days and one was 1-under.
“I really think the girls were just fired up to play some golf,” Hamann said. “Last week we didn’t have any events. We had some excellent practices as of late and its starting to show.”
Kiley Walsh’s big round included birdies on the first and third hole along with seven pars.
“Kiley was very solid,” Hamann said. “She definitely has the talent to do what she did along with a lot of other girls on our team.”
Scaccia started her impressive round 3-under par after the first four holes. The junior then had four bogeys in a row but finished strong with a birdie to close out her career best round.
Prospect will compete at the Waukegan Invite on Saturday.
“We are looking to build off this momentum and go attack Bonnie Brook,” Hamann added. “It was a great atmosphere with our players, coaches, players and parents (on Thursday). It was a very energetic finish coming down the ninth hole. Days like this are so rewarding for the kids’ efforts, hard work and energy.”
The Waukegan Invite includes Prospect, New Trier, Hinsdale Central and Highland Park. All four teams are ranked among the top five in the state.
“The Waukegan Invite is always one of our favorite tournaments of the season, Hamann said. “The field is extremely competitive.”
After Eitelbach, Hersey’s top scorers were Katie McIlree (48), Alyssa Zaucha (49), Claire Schwaba (50) and Lindsay Perkins (50).
Fremd d. Hoffman Estates: Fremd improved to 8-0 in the MSL with a 171-229 victory at Highland Woods Golf Course. Medalist Jenifer Kim (41), Angie Kim (42), Dorothy Feng (43) and Gwen Glasner (45) were top scorers for the Vikings while junior Hannah Brostoff (49) led the Hawks.
Barrington d. Wheeling: Medalist Heather Ciskowski (38), Bailee McDonald (44), Kelly Umphred (48), Katharine Sodeika (49) led the visiting Fillies to a 179-230 win at Chevy Chase in Wheeling.
Jackie Resnick (51) and Kaitlyn DeBusk (52) paced Wheeling.
Buffalo Grove d. Schaumburg: Senior Grace Kil shot a 39 to lead Buffalo Grove to a 183-217 victory at the Schaumburg Golf Course.
Courtney Meyer (43), Amber Guiao (47) and Jill Lynch (54) were the other top scorers for BG while Emily Santucci (45) and Lindsay Leiber (48) paced Schaumburg.
Conant d. Elk Grove: Jackie Halden (40) and Carly Bryeans (42) led Conant to a 180-185 triumph at the Fox Run Golf Club in Elk Grove. Katie DeMeulenaere (40) and Marki Kaim (42) paced the Grenadiers.
