New Dental Students Help Lead Midwestern University Career Day

Recently, the Downers Grove Campus of Midwestern University held a Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day for employees and the children in their lives. This annual event is coordinated by the Human Resources Department and this year's programming was developed in partnership with the College of Dental Medicine-Illinois (CDMI).

The CDMI theme for the day was “Look Who Is Smiling” and dental medicine faculty and students educated more than 50 children on proper brushing and flossing techniques, healthy food choices, and what it takes to become a dentist. They also led sessions in the dental simulation lab where participants were able to work at high-tech dental simulation stations. Another popular session included making molds of teeth and learning about dental x-rays.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the program which has grown to include a half day of scheduled activities. One of the goals of the day is to introduce children to a variety of different careers and several children expressed an interest in learning more about the field of dental medicine. The College of Dental Medicine – Illinois joins in a University-wide commitment to community service and is preparing to welcome its second class to the program this fall.
