Village of Woodridge Expands Residential License Program

For the past 19 years, the Village of Woodridge has implemented a residential licensing program which requires annual registration for approximately 4,300 rental units in the community and annual inspections for approximately 900 rental units. In response to the increase in residential rental units and foreclosures in Woodridge, the Village Board recently approved an expansion of the program – which will include a requirement that all landlords within Woodridge attend a crime free housing seminar.

“Maintaining the quality of Woodridge's rental housing has been, and continues to be an important priority of the Village,” said Mayor William Murphy. “Through these expanded efforts, we help to protect property owner investment and preserve the quality of housing in the community.”

The expanded program requires any owner or managing agent of three or more multi-family rental units within the Village to apply for an annual license. Currently, the program requires owners of three or more rental units within a single building to obtain a license. Owners or agents of two or less multi-family rental units in the Village and single family rental units will not be required to obtain a license but will be required to attend (along with license holders) a crime free housing seminar by August 1, 2014.

Owner or managing agents of three or more multi-family rental units within the Village that do not already have a residential license on file with the Village of Woodridge are required to do so by September 27, 2012. License applications can be found on the Village Website in the online forms section.

The residential rental program expansion will only apply to rentals and not owner-occupied condos, townhomes, and single family homes. If you have questions about the program, please contact Allen Fennell at (630)719-4750.
