Waukegan Y swim team starts new season Sept. 5

The Olympics may be over for four years, but future Olympic swimmers can put their dream in motion this fall.

For nearly 50 years the Y Seahorse Swim Team has been helping swimmers build self-esteem, enjoy the water and create life-long friendships. Currently coached by a former team member, Seahorse swimmers have qualified for the YMCA Nationals and several other championship events.

Continuing this outstanding tradition, the Seahorses will hold registration and try-outs for the winter 2012-2013 season on Sept. 5, 6:30-8 pm at the Northern Lake County YMCA, 2000 Western Avenue, Waukegan. All skill levels and ages up to 21 are welcome. Team members must be able to swim 25 yards (one pool length) of freestyle and backstroke. General knowledge of butterfly and breaststroke is encouraged.

Future swimmers will have a chance to meet with coaches and learn about the “Seahorse Experience” from current swimmers and their parents. The coaching staff includes former team members who want all team members enjoy the water while earning the satisfaction of seeing the rewards of dedication and discipline.
