Midwestern University Celebrates Graduations

Midwestern University recently held several commencement ceremonies on the Downers Grove Campus to celebrate the start of a variety of healthcare careers for the graduates. During the ceremonies, Kathleen H. Goeppinger, Ph.D., President and CEO of the University acknowledged the many achievements of the graduates during their years of rigorous study and clinical experiences.

Midwestern's Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine honored 169 graduates in May. Among the graduates, 65 percent will enter primary care residencies while the rest of the class also secured residencies in various specialties including emergency medicine, orthopedic surgery, neurological surgery, ophthalmology, radiology, psychiatry, and anesthesiology. More than half the class will stay in Illinois for their residency programs, with the rest traveling to 27 other states for their residencies.

Also in May, the College of Health Sciences celebrated the graduation of members of the Physical Therapy and Biomedical Sciences Programs. Forty-five students earned a doctorate in Physical Therapy degree and will begin careers in hospitals, clinics, and treatment centers throughout the United States. Of the 54 students earning master's degrees in biomedical science, several graduates will matriculate to another degree program at Midwestern University. In addition, 194 students from the Chicago College of Pharmacy graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree and will begin their professional careers in a variety of healthcare settings. Several graduates elected to continue their education with a pharmacy residency. Out of the graduates who applied, 63.2 percent were selected in a national match, which is higher than the national average among all pharmacy resident applicants.

“I thank all of the graduates for coming to Midwestern University and making such a wonderful mark on this University in terms of their many academic accomplishments and their service to the community,” Dr. Goeppinger said. “I am confident that they will continue to succeed as healthcare professionals and embrace both the compassion and hard work they've demonstrated at Midwestern.”
