Fecarotta letter misleading to residents

Mr. Fecarotta’s letter to the editor (April 16 Neighbor Fencepost) has statements meant to mislead the reader. His statement, “recent decisions, such as outside party functions” is meant to incite and portray the (township) board in a bad light. Parties to which he refers were not parties but rather employee recognition luncheons being held November 2006, January 2009 and February 2011, respectively.

He implies that the board provides free dental service for adults. This General Assistance program is fee-based, users meet a needs test and minors utilize the service — not just voting adults, not free, and not just for voters.

The electorate can exercise the right to impose term limits via elections. There are only two members of the board who have served for nearly three terms not five members as he implies. Those board members have helped steer this township through some of the toughest economic times in history, yet he implies that this board employs poor business practices.

This must explain how we have continued to maintain a balanced budget, why this board has no debt, and why we continuously look at ways to improve service, control expenses and further meet the needs of the community. In his world, perhaps we should practice business as usual like the bankrupt state administration or debt-riddled federal government. I think not!

He would have the reader believe that politics entered into a decision to save hundreds of thousands of dollars annually by outsourcing services performed by Spectrum. It would seem that rather than ascertain the facts that went into that decision he finds it easier to imply an impropriety against those who actually spent many hours of research and fact gathering before making a very difficult but informed decision.

Mr. Fecarotta states he’s confused and it is no wonder!
