Einstein School celebrates reading and writing

On April 26, Einstein Elementary School in Hanover Park held its annual “Celebrate Reading and Writing Night.”

This event allowed the students to showcase reading and writing activities they have been working on in the classroom, such as stories, journals and essays. Student artwork was also on display.

In addition, many literary events were going on during the evening. Hanover Park Mayor Rodney Craig was a featured guest reader. Several staff members, including Principal Chris Martelli, performed a reader’s theater version of the play “The Tale of the Lazy People,” adapted from a South American folk tale.

Some fifth- and sixth-grade students performed “Now I Understand,” about reading strategies good readers use.

Many students from the Reader’s Theater Club were involved in live performances of plays, poetry and monologues. There was also a “live” wax museum featuring students who dressed up as characters and gave monologues about their that person.

It was a well-attended event, with more than 100 families participating.
