Marengo blanks Cary-Grove

Marengo 1, Cary-Grove 0: Marengo senior Lindsay Melson struck out 15 Cary-Grove hitters as the defending Class 3A state champs downed the Trojans in a nonconference game. Lisa Semro’s single was the only hit off Melson (21-5), who did walk 5. Lindsay Efflandt (23-6) suffered the loss for Cary-Grove (26-7), allowing just 2 hits with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks. “It was an extremely competitive game,” said Cary-Grove coach Tammy Olson. “Melson is an excellent pitcher, one of the top pitchers in the state. She was just dominating.”
