Conant knocks out West Chicago

A 5-run fifth inning propelled pitcher Dan Durr and Conant to a 6-3 victory over visiting West Chicago in Monday’s Class 4A York regional quarterfinal.

Nick Blaha had 2 RBI and Zach Losch, Kerry Hickerson, Dan Behof and Mike Matej drove in runs for the Cougars (13-14), who are seeded 15th in the Schaumburg sectional. They will play at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday against No. 2 St. Charles North at York.

Hoffman Estates 5, Riverside-Brookfield 0: Sophomore Ethan Bloom went 3-for-3 with his ninth homer, a 3-run shot, and a triple as four pitchers combined on a 5-hitter for Hoffman (18-16) in a regular-season game. Jimmy Ward, Brian Cvitkovitch, Danny Barela and Kevin Grudzinski pitched for the Hawks and Mike Gordon and Jimmy Ward had 2 hits.

Schaumburg 4, Maine South 2: Matt Brancato (6-2) and Patrick Bellinger (second save) combined on a 5-hitter as Schaumburg (21-13) won for the eighth time in nine games. Jordan Grubb doubled and Jack Holden and Colin Bethran had RBI singles in a 2-run first.
