Schaumburg celebrates German roots with May 20 bike tour

Schaumburg residents next weekend can honor their village's Old World German roots and enjoy some bicycling all at the same time.

The annual Fahrrad Tour Von Schaumburg bike ride and picnic will take place from noon to 2:15 p.m. Sunday, May 20.

The event is organized by the Schaumburg Park District and co-sponsored by the village of Schaumburg and Alexian Brothers Health System.

Riders will begin the group tour at Blackwell Elementary School, 345 N. Walnut Lane, promptly at noon. The entire family can enjoy the hourlong police-guided ride along five miles of Schaumburg bikeways.

The ride will end at the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center at 101 Schaumburg Court with a picnic featuring a free hot dog or brat, chips, a drink and entertainment.

Beginning at 1:45 p.m., bus transportation will be provided to return participants and their bikes to Blackwell.

Preregistration is not required, but all riders must sign a liability waiver prior to departure. Beginners and riders with training wheels are advised not to participate.

A limited number of event T-shirts will be available for $10 each.
