Schaumburg Township salutes volunteers

On Tuesday, April 26, The Township of Schaumburg honored 200 volunteers at the Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner. This year there were 38 volunteer with milestones that totaled over 370 years of service to the township.

Four very special individuals or groups were presented with the Friends of Schaumburg Township Award.

The General Assistance Department was pleased to honor Dean and Deanna Bruckner and their “Pantry Garden Crew.” Since 2002 the township food pantry has received over 15,000 pounds of home-grown vegetables from the “Pantry Garden Crew.”

Disability Services honored the Deaf Services Volunteers. They are a group of volunteers who never turn down an assignment. These 13 people have done everything from preparing the monthly Deaf Line newsletter, to helping out with picnics and parties.

Marge Nally was honored by the Senior Services Department for her hardworking devotion. Each week Marge brings her smile and hardworking sprit with her positive attitude to our senior’s department. She is always here willing to take on any task, big or small.

Spectrum Youth and Family Services selected Dr. Martha (Marti) Lansu for the 2012 Friend of Schaumburg Award. Lansu established the Eliza Doolittle Scholarship at Harper Community College. This scholarship has been supporting the education of a youth, selected by the staff of Spectrum, who will be pursuing an associate degree at the college.
