Girls soccer/Fox Valley roundup

The Harvest Christian girls soccer team will get a shot at a Class 1A regional title on Friday after the Lions defeated Harvard 8-1 Wednesday in the semifinals of the Marengo regional.

Harvest (7-11-1) will take on top-seeded Marengo at 4:30 p.m. Friday for a spot in next week’s Harvard sectional.

Sydney Doby scored a hat trick for the Lions in Wednesday’s win, as did Brittney Salazar. The other 2 goals came off the foot of Callie Arosen. Tori Nelson made 4 saves in goal.

“The girls played outstanding,” said Harvest Christian coach Basilio Salazar. “We played very well defensively, we possessed the ball and we controlled the game.”

Genoa-Kingston 2, Westminster Christian 1: The Warriors saw their season come to an end with this loss at the Class 1A G-K regional. Megan McDonough scored Westminster’s goal. Christina Cusumano had 12 saves in goal for the Warriors (3-12-3). Genoa will take on St. Edward at 4:30 p.m. Friday for the regional title.
