Construction under way at St. Viator High School
The fences are up and a hard-hat area has been designated on the west end of St. Viator High School.
After nearly two years of fundraising, school officials will begin the first phase of its $10 million capital campaign, “Shaping the Future with Faith,” this summer with the renovation of the Scanlan Center — a resource center located on the school’s third floor that serves students with diagnosed learning differences.
Along with the 9,344 square-foot renovation on the third floor, there are conceptual drawings to include a 33,000-square-foot addition to the school, including a larger, updated cafeteria and kitchen; a new bookstore; and student commons area on the first floor.
The second floor will focus on the fine arts and feature two art studios and kiln room; band rehearsal space; practice rooms; a multipurpose choral rehearsal room; and a music library.
The last major focus of the campaign will be increasing the Tuition Assistance endowment to ensure that any student seeking a Viatorian education is afforded the opportunity. Currently, over $1.2 million is distributed in tuition assistance to more than 27 percent of the student population.
To kick start the first phase, preliminary construction of an elevator on the western end of the campus, which will tie into the Scanlan Center construction, was initiated on April 1.
The Rev. Robert M. Egan, C.S.V., president of St. Viator High School, reports more than $8.2 million has been pledged so far from more than 130 families, alumni, parents, past parents and friends of St. Viator.
“I have been truly humbled by the outpouring of support from our community,” Egan said. “These new improvements will greatly enhance our students’ educational experience. We truly appreciate all that our families and supporters do for the school.”
