South Elgin’s softball team pulled off a mild upset on Wednesday, downing Waubonsie Valley and freshman phenom Shannon Hohman 2-1 in Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division action in South Elgin.
Senior Sam Bolin (7-10) scattered 7 hits and struck out 3 while the Storm played errorless defense behind her.
Bolin also hit a 2-run home run for South Elgin (9-17, 6-7), while Victoria Watt was 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and Paige Allen had a double.
CL Central 11, Dundee-Crown 4: Melany Love (3-for-4, 2B), Lauren Mercado (3-for-4, 2 RBI) and Mandy Moore (2-for-3, RBI) led Dundee-Crown in this Fox Valley Conference crossover loss. Amanda Eissler suffered the loss for the Chargers (7-15).
Rosary 4, St. Edward 1: Kali Kossakowski and Ryann Scully had the only hits for St. Edward (7-15, 5-8) in the Suburban Christian. Morgin Coughlin (4-10) suffered the loss for the Green Wave.
St. Charles East 17, Larkin 1: Kiernan Schock suffered the loss for Larkin (3-23, 1-11) in the UEC River.
Elgin 3, Geneva 1: Elgin’s game against Geneva on Tuesday was ruled an official game after being called in the sixth inning due to rain. Hannah Perryman (12-6) struck out 11, walked 3 and allowed 4 hits and had a double and an RBI for the Maroons (15-9, 8-5), who stayed alive in the UEC River title chase.
St. Charles North 1, Streamwood 0: Natalie Filippo, Katie Liquori and Kaylie Jambor had Streamwood’s only hits in this UEC River loss. Kellee Conquest allowed just 3 hits in suffering the loss.
