Feel the Byrne: Schaumburg tops Hoffman Estates
Schaumburg shortstop Thomas Byrne was on fire at the plate in Tuesday’s Mid-Suburban West baseball game at Hoffman Estates.
Byrne went 5-for-5 with a homer, double, 3 RBI and 4 runs as Schaumburg (13-11, 5-5) gave Paul Groot his 599th career victory 12-5 in a game moved to Hoffman because of field conditions. Matt Brancato hit a 3-run homer in the sixth and Colin Bethran had 2 hits for the Saxons, who will host today’s rematch at 4:30 p.m.
Justin Frame had 2 hits for Hoffman (9-14, 3-7).
Prospect 4, Wheeling 0: Jack Landwehr (5-2) allowed his only hit with two outs in the bottom of the sixth as Prospect (10-14, 7-3) moved back into a tie for first in the MSL East with Hersey. Landwehr had 11 strikeouts and 4 walks and doubled at Wheeling (1-22, 0-10).
Brad Gerdes had a 2-run double and A.J. Compton went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Knights.
Glenbrook North 8, Maine West 7: Maine West dropped to 12-12 overall and 4-5 in the Central Suburban North with the loss.
