St. Edward’s Coughlin throws no-hitter
St. Edward senior was a walk and an error away from a 6-inning perfect game Monday at the Elgin Sports Complex.
As it was, Coughlin finished with a no-hitter and 8 strikeouts as the Green Wave downed Aurora Christian 10-0 in Suburban Christian Conference play.
“Morgin has been working hard on her game and it showed today, both in the circle and at the plate,” said St. Edward coach Jaci Corn.
In addition to throwing the no-hitter, Couglin was also 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI as St. Edward (5-13, 3-6) pounded out 15 hits.
Kali Kossakowski (3-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 SBs), Kristi Kroll (3-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI), Kelly Theriault (2B, 2 RBI), Ashley Gradisher (RBI), Julie Larson (2B) and Ryann Scully (2-for-4) all contributed to the win for St. Edward.
Westminster Christian 12, Hinckley-Big Rock 2: Ally Heishler was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and Maddie King went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI as the Warriors (6-3) won in nonconference play. Rachel Fugiel allowed 3 hits with 4 strikeouts and no walks to earn the win.
CL Central 3, Hampshire 0: The Whip-Purs (10-13, 3-3) managed just 3 hits in this Fox Valley Conference Fox Division loss. Jen Hurst (8-9) took the loss for Hampshire. She allowed 5 hits and had 8 strikeouts with 5 walks.
McHenry 9, Huntley 2: Randi Peterson was 2-for-4, Haylee Spannraft was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Angela Tribuzio had a double and an RBI for Huntley in this FVC Valley loss. Spannraft suffered the loss in the circle for the Red Raiders (3-14, 0-6.
