Fremd clinches West title

John Patrick French had 4 goals and Andre Degla had a pair to lead a balanced scoring effort for visiting Fremd, which clinched a Mid-Suburban West championship with its 11-3 win over Hoffman Estates on Tuesday.

Fremd improved to 17-5 overall and 8-0 in the West under Brian Newby, who’d led the Fremd girls team to four straight Mid-Suburban League titles before taking over the boys team this spring.

Schaumburg defeated Barrington on Tuesday to remain 2 games behind the Vikings with 2 left to play, but Fremd has already beaten Schaumburg twice and would win the head-to-head tiebreaker between the two.

In the East Division, Buffalo Grove and Wheeling are tied with 7-1 division records with two games remaining.

Schaumburg 13, Barrington 2: The host Saxons got a game-high 5 goals from Marty Kwiatkowski, and Randy Carr and David Nytko each had 2 to keep the Saxons in second place in the MSL West.

Conant 16, Palatine 11: Jonathon Burke had a team-best 5 goals to lead the way for visiting Conant (12-6, 5-3), which remains in third place in the MSL West. Christian Kalfas had 4 goals for Palatine (5-12, 2-6).

Prospect 10, Hersey 9: The host Knights (5-12, 2-6) won in the Mid-Suburban East as Nathanael Ginnodo had 4 goals. Alex Niemiec led Hersey (7-9, 4-4) with 5 goals.
