Fremd shuts down Mundelein
Fremd’s softball team improved to 11-2 on Tuesday with an 8-0 shutout over visiting Mundelein.
Junior Ashlynne Schwantz (5-1) fired a 2-hitter with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk as the Vikes gave her a 2-0 lead in the first inning and added 5 runs in the third.
Leading the offense for the Vikes were Mandi Matsumoto (2-for-4, 2 runs), Leigh Farina (4-for-4, 2 runs, , 3 RBI, double), Megan Hubbard (2-for-4, 1 run, 2 RBI), Schwantz (2-for-3) and Brittany Ciura (double).
St. Viator 9, Gordon Tech 0: Lions freshman pitcher Krystal Harris needed only 87 pitches to win her second game, posting a 9-0 in the nonconference game.
Harris threw 60 strikes and struck out four while throwing a 4-hitter as the Lions improved to 5-7.
Harris was supported offensively by Alex Flasch (3-for-4, home run, 4 RBI) and Sam Hogan (3-3, triple, double, 2 RBI).
Flasch hit her third homer of the season in the first inning with Harris on base for a 2-0 lead.
Lauren Prazuch (2-for-5, RBI) and Martha Hayes (2-run single) also contributed to the offense.
“We are a young and energetic team,” said Lions coach Dan Twarog. “We have worked hard for every win this season. Krystal did a great job controlling the game. The defense was flawless and we had a great hitting to help Krystal. This was a good team win.”
