Donate building materials to Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley ReStore is once again partnering with Ziegler’s Ace Hardware to provide homeowners living in northern Kane County and McHenry County an easy opportunity to donate gently used or new home improvement and building materials.
The second Saturday of each month, beginning April 14, Habitat ReStore’s donation truck will be ready to accept donations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ziegler’s Ace Hardware store in the Cary Square Shopping Center, off Route 14.
“We’ve wanted to make it convenient for people to donate usable materials, however, some may consider driving to Elgin too far to drop the items off,” said Deanna Davies, ReStore Director. “As well, it isn’t cost-effective for us to drive up there to collect certain items. By partnering with Ziegler’s Ace Hardware, we’re able to fill in that distance barrier.”
“The donor also has the knowledge that their usable materials aren’t ending up in landfills and that they are giving to a great cause,” Davies said.
Those interested in donating should first check with Habitat ReStore to ensure the item is acceptable. Visit the website at www.restoreelgin.org to find a list of acceptable materials or call (847) 742-9905, ext. 2.
Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Elgin is a 40,000-square-foot retail center that accepts donated home improvement and building materials from individuals, retailers, manufacturers, distributors and contractors. The materials are sold to the public, at greatly reduced prices, and the funds generated support the home construction program of Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley, while also reducing the amount of building materials that would otherwise go into overflowing landfills. Since opening in April 2006, ReStore has raised enough funds to construct 25 houses and has diverted over 3,500 tons of materials from landfills.
