EG library board was ‘class act’
First off, thank you Elk Grove Library trustees in reinstating the West Siders’ library privileges. By this action, you have let the children of the “West Side” continue to and enjoy youth programs they have been participating in for years, as some of them are not offered at the Schaumburg Library.
My daughter, Ashley, and I have attended meetings both at Elk Grove and Schaumburg libraries regarding this issue and I have to compliment the Elk Grove Library trustees in the manner in which they receive audience comments.
The Elk Grove board always treated each member of the audience, no matter the age, complaint, or comment, with the same courtesy and respect, as any other audience member speaking that particular evening. Unfortunately, we were not provided with that same privilege elsewhere.
Reversing a decision that was already made is impressive. This indicates that the board was truly listening to the residents and realizing what impact this decision would have on children and their families; and then to have them act on what the residents had to say; again, impressive, and all around class act.
It is nice to know that there are people in charge, presented with a problem that may or may not affect them, actually do listen and care enough to make a change that will be for the better. A special thank you to Bruce Barnett for giving Ashley the encouragement to continue trying to get people to listen. Elk Grove Village does, in fact, live up to the motto of “The Exceptional Community.”
