Hersey’s Danielak 1-hits St. Viator

Hersey improved to 4-1 as Mike Danielak struck out eight while tossing a 1-hitter in a 5-1 nonconference victory over host St. Viator on Saturday.

Danielak did not allow an earned run and walked two. He retired 16 of the last 17 batters.

Trevor Haas, Tyler Perkowitz and Nick Nolan had the hits for Hersey.

Hersey scored twice in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk that scored David Milligan and hit by pitch that allowed Perkowitz to score.

Lions pitcher Tim McElroy struck out six and walked two in 6 innings.

Viator’s hit was a leadoff single in the second inning by Cosimo Cannella.

Elk Grove 10, West Chicago 3: Jack Czeszewski had 3 hits, including 2 doubles, as visiting Elk Grove produced 5 runs in the first inning on the way to a 10-3 nonconference win at West Chicago.

Mike Anciulis went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and drove in 3 runs, and Luc Dimaso drove in 3 runs for Elk Grove.

Starter Cody Gustafson earned the victory; he allowed 3 earned runs in 3 innings.

Glenbrook North 8, Conant 3: The host Cougars outhit the Spartans 8-6 but couldn’t overcome 5 errors in nonconference play in Hoffman Estates.

Palatine 6, Antioch 0: Palatine’s Eric Scheuermann went 2-for-4 with a triple and 3 RBI as the Pirates picked up a nonconference victory on the road.

Jake Walker got the shutout win, striking out nine with 5 walks and 5 hits.

Rolling Meadows 9, Lake Forest 2: Matt Hendricks and Dan Hendricks each went 2-for-4 for Meadows which scored 4 in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Mickey Wazorick, an RBI single by Eric Lowe and 2 errors.

Mike Olson (1-for-3) got on base twice for Meadows and scored 2 runs with an RBI. He homered in the first inning.

Matt Dennis collected 13 strikeouts while tossing a 6-hitter.

Barrington 13, Whitney Young 3 (5-inn): Jon Rodgers was the wining pitcher for Barrington (8-3) while Max Redpath had a pair of doubles and Justin Dragosc and Justin Gitelis also had doubles. Macray Poidomani belted a homer for the Broncos.

St. Viator 10, Warren 1: Senior Chris Myjak struck out nine and walked two while tossing a 3-hitter for the host Lions (8-4).

Roy Pettingill belted a 3-run homer for the Lions while teammate Andrew Ferrante doubled.

Joe Rossi went 2-for-3 with 2 runs and a stolen base.

New Trier 4, Prospect 2: Eric Krohm had a double for Prospect while Jordan Fedro took the loss.

Schaumburg 9, Elgin 8: Josh Rahn was the winning pitcher for Schaumburg, which received two doubles apiece from Matt Brancato and Thomas Byrne and one from Brayden Teele.
