Cary-Grove 12, Hersey 0: Cary-Grove junior Lindsay Efflandt (6-0) was the winning pitcher as the Trojans posted a 12-0 shutout at Hersey (4-3).
The Huskies’ only hit was a homer run by sophomore catcher Angela Schmiederer in the bottom of the seventh inning.
St. Viator 3, Madison Memorial (Wis.) 2 (8 innings): On Monday in Florida, Erika Kreiner’s game-winning hit scored pinch runner Vanessa Parise from second base after Alex Flasch scored the tying run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Sam Hogan pitched 5 innings, striking out six and giving up 3 hits. Krystal Harris came on in relief to stop a Madison threat in the sixth and struck out three in her 2 innings.
Madison tied the game in the seventh and then took the lead in the eighth.
Flasch, Kreiner, and Tess Kaiser each had 2 hits for the Lions (2-3).
“Every player on the team contributed in some way to the victory,” said Lions coach Dan Twarog. “Great pitching, flawless defense, smart base running and timely hitting gets you wins in close games.”
It was the first of four games this week that the Lions are playing at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida.
