Downers North doubles up on Wheaton North

UIC recruit Elaine Heflin struck out 11 in Downers Grove North’s 6-0 win over Wheaton North in the opener Monday, and Dale Ryndak fanned 10 in the 10-2 second-game win for the No. 9 Trojans in Wheaton.

Sam Yeager homered in both ends of the doubleheader, going 2-for-2 with 3 runs scored in the first game and 2-for-3 with the solo shot in the second. Ryndak drove in 2 in the second game and Carolyn Nojiri doubled and drove in a run.

Downers Grove South 3-10, Elgin 4-2:

Loyola-bound Katy LaCivita homered in the second game for the No. 11 Mustangs (1-1), who bounced back from an eight-inning loss to No. 12 Elgin and ace Hannah Perryman in the opener.

Metea Valley 6, Plainfield North 3:

Sara Knox tripled, doubled and drove in 3 runs and Antoinette Senese homered for the Mustangs in their season opener.

Morton 3, Montini 2:

Emily Barg took the loss for the Broncos (0-4).
