Jacob Koehring threw a complete-game 3-hitter Thursday to lead the St. Edward baseball team to an 8-1 nonconference win over Genoa-Kingston.

Koehring struck out 7 and walked 2 in earning his first win of the season. He also had an RBI double at the plate.

The Green Wave (2-4) scored 6 runs in the first inning, sparked by back-to-back doubles from Koehring and his brother, Ty. Ty Koehring was 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI in the game.

Antonio Domel and Jake Lefrenz each had RBI for St. Edward as well.

South Elgin 6, Wheeling 5: Ryan Ford had 2 doubles and Michael Murphy, Chris Bingham and David Palmer added one each to lead South Elgin to a five-inning nonconference win. Joe Crivolio picked up the win for the Storm.

Harlem 2, Huntley 1: Justin Gundlach and Colin Lyman (2 stolen bases) each had 2 hits but Huntley, the No. 1 ranked team in the Daily Herald preseason Top 20, fell to NIC-10 power Harlem, which scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Mark Merevick drove in the only run of the game for the Red Raiders with a sacrifice fly. Bryan Doherty took the loss for Huntley.
