Veteran groups to host flag incineration ceremony
Submitted by Am Vets Post 245 of Cary Grove
When an American flag has become frayed, torn or faded, it is time to properly dispose of it. Am Vets Post 245 of Cary Grove and American Legion Post 119 of Fox River Grove are providing refurbished mail drop boxes to properly dispose of American flags that are no longer fit for flying.
The retired flag drop boxes are located in front of the Water Rescue Station, 400 Lucille Ave., across the street from the Fox River Grove Village Hall, and at Algonquin Township office, 3702 Route 14, Crystal Lake.
The drop boxes will allow people to drop off a worn-out flag anytime they feel it convenient regardless of the time of year.
On Flag Day, June 14, veteran organizations will host a flag incineration ceremony at 5 p.m. at Cary Veterans Park, Route 14 and Crystal Street. Everyone is welcome to watch the flag ceremony to respectfully dispose of our nation’s flag. Also attending will be Boy Scout Troop 161 of Oakwood Hills to help sort the flags.
