Sign up now for Schaumburg Idol auditions

Can you out sing the contestants on American Idol, The Voice or The X Factor?

Make Schaumburg Park District’s Schaumburg Idol your first step to singing stardom. The district will hold auditions for the 2012 season March 8 and 10.

Twelve contestants will be chosen to compete for eight spots, which will then be narrowed down to four, then two and eventually one Schaumburg Idol. Contestants advance according to the highest combined judge and community votes. Prizes will be awarded to the winner.

“Schaumburg Idol will give a dozen area singers an opportunity to step onstage and dazzle us with their voices,” said Beth Waller, cultural arts supervisor for the Schaumburg Park District.

“The community will have the chance to vote for their favorite contestant on the park district’s website this summer.”

To be eligible for Schaumburg Idol, contestants must be ages 13 or older and not party to a contract for performing services. Interested individuals must register through the Schaumburg Park District online at parkfun.com or at one of the district’s facilities.

Once registered, contestants will be contacted to set up an audition time. Contestants must perform a one-minute selection from a song of their choice. Performances may be a cappella or accompanied by a cassette or CD provided by the contestant. No rap songs or inappropriate language is permitted.

Competition tapings will be held June to August. Audition fee is $5 for residents and $8 for nonresidents. Fee for those chosen to compete is $35 for residents and $57 for nonresidents.
