Elgin bank puts elementary students’ artwork on display

Student artwork selected from Elgin Area School District U-46’s 40 elementary schools is on display at First Community Bank in Elgin in March for the eighth annual “Art is Elementary” visual arts exhibit.

Elementary art teachers select eight to 10 pieces from their schools to display at the exhibit which is open to the public. Each month, the bank displays more than 200 pieces of work representing 20 schools.

The public is invited to attend a reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, to view the students’ exhibit or to stop by First Community Bank, 50 Tyler Creek Plaza in Elgin, during business hours.

“This program is a great way to showcase to the community the importance of art education in our elementary schools,” said U-46 Fine Arts Coordinator Terri DeDecker. “Members of the community and our parents really enjoy seeing the quality of art that comes from our students and witnessing the creativity and imagination that children develop in the classroom.”
