Schaumburg District 54 wins grant for Chinese program

Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 has received a $75,000 grant for the expansion of its Chinese language immersion program from the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Arts Council.

District 54 began its Chinese immersion program this school year with the teaching of kindergartners from throughout the district at Campenelli School in Schaumburg.

Next year the program will be expanded to first grade and the grant money will be used for the additional staff training and materials that will go along with the expansion, Principal Steve Kern said.
