Westminster, Harvest to meet for regional title

Elgin's Class 1A rivalry will heat up again Friday night when the girls basketball teams from Westminster Christian and Harvest Christian battle for the Class 1A Westminster regional championship on Elgin's far west side.

Harvest Christian secured its spot in the title game with a 2-point win for the second night in a row, downing Christian Liberty 30-28 in Wednesday's first semifinal. Top seed Westminster then downed Elgin Academy 53-25.

Sydney Doby scored 10 points with Kylee Knox and Morgan Lockwood adding 7 each to lead the Lions (16-10) to their win.

"I'm really proud of the girls," said Harvest coach Kelly Friesatd. "They fought hard the whole game and played well as a team."

Claire Speweik had 18 points and Liz Meschewski added 10 in Westminster's win. Kinsley Donahue scored 9 points for the Warriors (19-8).

Westminster defeated Harvest 45-32 earlier in the season. Friday's winner will advance to next week's Willows Academy sectional in Des Plaines.

Westminster Christian has never won a regional title in any girls sport and Harvest Christian is in its first year of IHSA sports.

Prairie Ridge 46, Huntley 39: Sam Andrews had 16 points to lead Huntley in this Fox Valley Conference Valley Division loss. Haley Ream added 7 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals for the Red Raiders (12-13, 6-6).

Women's basketball

Indiana-South Bend 71, Judson 51: Emily Ragsdale had 12 points and Riquel Butler added 10 for Judson (13-14).
