Big Boomin' Heart Fair Feb. 25 at Advocate Good Samaritan

February recognizes the most important organ in the body, your heart. Knowing your numbers and staying heart healthy is key to detection and prevention of heart disease.

“Heart disease remains a leading cause of death and most of those deaths are preventable,” said Dr. Peter Kerwin, a cardiologist on staff at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital.

Cholesterol levels and pre-diabetic screenings can help prevent heart disease and stroke. “If you already have heart disease, then knowing your numbers is even more important in order to decrease the risk of future heart attacks or strokes,” Kerwin said.

Attend the ninth annual Big Boomin' Heart Fair at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 8 to 11 a.m. in the lower level atrium on the hospital campus. To register for the pre-screening cholesterol and diabetes check, please call (800) 3.ADVOCATE (800) 323-8622.

The event is open to the whole family. Registration is required and you will receive your results at the fair. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the Cardiac Catheterization & Electrophysiology Labs. In addition, there will be children's face painting, giveaways and informative booths.

“Treating your high cholesterol can make a huge impact on your risk for heart disease and stroke,” Kerwin said. “The community can take advantage of this free fair so they can prevent future heart problems and get appropriate treatment.”
