Girls basketball/Fox Valley roundup
Elgin Academy 27, North Shore 25 (OT): Senior Night was an unforgettable one for Ashley Barnes and Angie Martinez, as their last game at Elgin Academy ended in a thrilling, overtime win over North Shore. Barnes led the way with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Martinez chipped in 3 points and 9 rebounds. The Hilltoppers led 24-10 in the third quarter but were able to sustain a furious North Shore push. Susanna Cain’s 17-foot jumper from the top of they key was the deciding basket in overtime.
Harvest Christian Academy 40, Cornerstone Christian Academy 12: The Lions (14-9) played tenacious defense as they were able to hold Cornerstone Christian Academy to just 12 points and earn a home victory. Kylee Knox and Anneliese Herman each recorded double-digits for the Lions with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Burlington Central 47, North Boone 40: Alison Colby scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Rockets (11-13, 6-3) to a Big Northern East victory. Sarah Nelson added 11 points for BC.
Women’s basketball
Oakton Community College 73, McHenry County College 55: The Scots (2-22, 0-8) erased a 9-point deficit in the first half but couldn’t sustain the rally to earn their first home win of the season against Oakton. Chrishaya Dixon scored a team-high 18 points for the Scots in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play.
Waubonsee Community College 57, Elgin Community College 53: The Spartans (15-6, 7-1) suffered their first Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference loss as they fell to Waubonsee Community College on the road. Cassie Dumoulin recorded a team-high 18 points, but only connected on 5 out of 23 shots from the floor. Carly Saraceno (13 points) and DiJon Smith (11 points) also recorded double-digits for the Spartans.
