East Dundee school offers full-day kindergarten
East Dundee- Kindergarten Plus, also known on campus as K+, is Immanuel East Dundee's newest program, providing an all-day kindergarten experience for students.
Principal Ken Becker is excited about the change.
“Offering an all-day kindergarten is something we have been discussing and the time was right," Becker said. "We have had an overwhelmingly positive response from parents thus far. During our priority registration on Saturday, parents chose the K+ over half-day 5 to 1.”
K+ will incorporate Immanuel's current half-day curriculum along with enrichment in music, art, and outdoor time. The additional time in school will allow the teacher to reinforce key concepts and spend more time exploring topics with the children. Students will have the option to purchase hot lunch as well.
For families needing childcare, Immanuel also offers an extended care program from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on days school is in session.
School board members were unanimous in their support of the new program.
Board president Larry Goodwin agreed, “We are glad to get this program off the ground and know that it will only add to the excellent programs Immanuel offers to children in our community.”
The community is invited to register for Immanuel's kindergarten at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28. Class size is typically 19 students or fewer with a teacher and an aide.
Openings exist for the 2012-13 school year and financial aid is available.
