Mayer keys Palatine victory
Palatine improved to 11-6 as senior forward Katelyn Mayer scored a season-high 16 points with 10 rebounds in a 46-23 nonconference win at Resurrection on Thursday.
It was another stellar defensive effort by Palatine, which held the Bandits under double digits in scoring in every quarter.
Junior guard Nia Pappas added 10 points (2 3-pointers) and classmate McKenzie Wiedemann had 8 points with a 3-pointer in Chicago.
The Pirates (2-1 in the Mid-Suburban West) will host Schaumburg (7-10, 2-1) at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Providence Catholic 56, St. Viator 42: Providence trailed 27-24 at the half but rallied for an East Suburban Catholic Conference win in Arlington Heights.
The Lions are 12-6 overall and 1-2 in league play and return to action on Monday at Hersey High School when they play the Huskies (9-8) in second-round pool play of the Season's End Tourney.
"We struggled to score in the second half," said Lions coach Paul Bjerkness, whose team was 6-of-14 at the free throw line while Providence was 19-of-37. "We had lots of silly fouls which put us in foul trouble."
