Student approached by van at Carpentersville bus stop

Two men tried to lure a Algonquin Middle School student into their van Tuesday morning at the same bus stop where a “very similar situation” occurred in 2010, according to school district officials.

The sixth grade boy was waiting at a bus stop alone in the Silverstone neighborhood on Flagstone Lane when two Hispanic men approached him in a white conversion van, said District 300 Safety Officer Gary Chester.

At about 8 a.m. the men asked the student to get into their vehicle, but the student ran home and the men drove off, Chester said.

The boy’s parents were still home when he returned, and they immediately contacted police, Chester said.

On a November morning in 2010, two Hispanic men in a white van approached a student at the same bus stop in the neighborhood located southwest of Routes 25 and 62, according to school district officials.

“At that time the report was that the driver got out of the vehicle and approached a student,” Chester said.

School district officials sent an automated alert through email and voice mail to parents Tuesday morning informing them of the attempted abduction.

“We wanted them to be aware of this incident and ask them to reinforce with their child the dangers of stranger interaction,” Chester said. “It’s a good point to talk to your student about that kind of activity.”
