Christian Liberty wins Alden-Hebron tourney

Christian Liberty’s inaugural appearance in a boys basketball holiday tournament was a success.

Luke Comerouski scored 21 points as the Chargers (7-5) claimed the Alden-Hebron Tournament title with a 42-38 victory over the hosts on Friday night.

Christian Liberty rallied from an 18-13 halftime deficit to win finish the tourney 4-0. Kyle Moriarty and Mike Milkowski added 7 points apiece.

Maine West 48, Deerfield 44: Conor Hart scored a game-high 24 points as Maine West (6-6) won the 13th-place game of the 34th annual Wildcat Hardwood Classic at Wheeling by beating Central Suburban North rival Deerfield for the second time this season.

Hart was 7-for-8 from the field inside the 3-point arc and 10-for-14 at the free-throw line as he averaged 22.5 points in the tournament. Kevin Garcia added 8 points.

Mack Watts led Deerfield with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Lake Park 54, Fremd 45: Lake Park (10-3) beat Fremd (9-5) for the second time this season in the seventh-place game of the Wildcat Hardwood Classic.

Lake Park used an 18-6 third quarter to erase a 20-18 halftime lead. Sean Benka (14 points), Adam Gorecki (11 points, 7 rebounds) and Garrett Peters (11 points) led Fremd as it wrapped up its first appearance at Wheeling.

Fremd sophomore Riley Glassman did not play after missing the second half of Thursday’s game with a back injury.

Streamwood 71, Wheeling 62: Sophomore Jeremy Stephani hit for career highs of 28 points and seven 3-pointers on 15 attempts for Wheeling (0-13) in the 15th-place game loss in the Wildcat Hardwood Classic.

Charlie Kirk added 11 points and Chris Pierro had 7 points and 4 assists for Wheeling. Stephani averaged 19.8 points with 17 3s in the tourney.

Leyden 52, Timothy Christian 43 (ot): All-tourney pick Alex Herrera scored 15 points for Leyden (8-4) in the third-place game of the Glenbard West tournament.

Carmel 61, Loyola 52: Brandon Motzel had 20 points and 11 rebounds as Carmel (5-7) rallied from a 4-point deficit after three quarters in the 11th-place game of the Wildcat Hardwood Classic. Loyola sophomore Jack Morrissey hit five 3-pointers to set the tourney record with 21.

York 46, Conant 44: Sean Bourke had 14 points for Conant (8-6) in the 11th-place game at York’s Jack Tosh Holiday Classic.

Perspectives 50, Palatine 49: Palatine fell to 1-12 with the loss in the 15th-place game at York.
