Hoffman rolls to title game at Bradley-Bourbonnais

The Hoffman Estates girls basketball team is one win away from a championship.

The Hawks advanced to the finals of the eight-team Boilermaker Tournament at Bradley-Bourbonnais with a 72-47 triumph over Crete-Monee on Thursday afternoon.

Hoffman (6-8) will play for the crown at 1:30 p.m. today against either Bloom or the host Boilermakers.

The Hawks never trailed in the semifinal as junior forward Destinee Young led the way with 26 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocked shots.

Senior guard Sara Burns added 21 points with 3 steals and 2 assists and had a streak of consecutive throws halted at 14.

Other key performers for Hoffman were junior Becca Stoczynski (11 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assist), senior Mary Pettit (8 points, 6 assist, 4 rebounds, 2 assists) and junior Rachel Mirabile (4 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal).

"The girls are starting to learn their roles on the team and getting comfortable with what we are trying to do offensively and defensively," said Hawks coach Mike Nocella.

Maine West 54, Buffalo Grove 47: Sophomore Brittany Collins (12 rebounds) and senior Amanda Hoye (5 assists, two 3-pointers) each scored 17 points to lead Maine West (5-12) in the seventh-place game at the Charger Classic at Dundee-Crown.

"Brittany played well the whole tournament," said Warriors coach Derril Kipp.

West, which was up by as many as 20 points, was without starting senior guard Megan John (ankle), who Kipp hopes to have back a week from today for a Central Suburban North game at Glenbrook North.

Junior forward Bailey North led the Bison (3-12) with 19 points.

Resurrection 56, Prospect 39: Senior forward Maura Benson's 10 points were high for the Knights (10-7, 1-3) who finished 12th in the 16-team Charger Classic at Dundee-Crown High School. Michele Molini, Christina Brucci and Adriane Falagario each chipped in 7 for the Knights, who visit Fremd on Tuesday.

Christian Liberty 44, Alden-Hebron 39: The Chargers (9-4, 3-0) trailed the host Giants by 7 going into the fourth quarter in the third round of the Aldren-Hebron Tournament.

But CLA outscored the hosts 20-8 in the final eight minutes despite three players fouling out.

The Chargers are the only unbeaten team in the tourney and will play Harvest Christian today at 5:30 p.m.

Jessica Moriarty scored a game-high 15 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter.

Megan Sullivan (11 points) and Jayna Rowland (7) combined for the other 10 points in the final quarter.
