Burlington Central mows down Morris

Burlington Central jumped out to a 39-21 halftime lead and went on to defeat Morris 83-73 Wednesday in the third round of the Plano Christmas Classic.

The Rockets (7-5) will play Seneca at 12:30 p.m. today.

Ryan Ritchie poured in 27 points while Bryce Warner (15 points), Ray Nunnicutt (13 points), and Moter Deng (10 points) also contributed with double-digits for BC.

Loyola 60, Streamwood 57: The Sabres (2-10) carried a 2-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, but were unable to hold on as they were defeated in the Wheeling Wildcat Hardwood Classic. Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle and Joel Lightbourne each recorded double-digits with 21 and 17 points, respectively.

Westminster Christian 37, Harvard 32: Will Woodhouse scored 13 points to lead the Warriors (9-7) to a victory over Harvard at the E.C. Nichols Tournament at Marengo. Aaron Wiewil and Colin Brandon each chipped in 8 points.

Woodstock North 42, Westminster Christian 32: In their second game of the day, the Warriors (9-7) fell just short to Woodstock North. Will Woodhouse again led the Warriors in scoring with 11 points while Aaron Wiewil added 7 points in the loss.

Elmwood Park 75, St. Edward 52: The Green Wave (5-8) was unable to keep up with Elmwood Park's high scoring offense as they suffered a loss in the Immaculate Conception Christmas Tournament. Eddie O'Halloran scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Wave while Adrian Ponce (14 points) and Doug Johnson (12 points) also recorded double-figures.

South Elgin 43, Palatine 31: The Storm (6-6) was able to pick up a victory at the York Jack Tosh Holiday Classic behind 13 points from Darius Wells. Jacob Maestranzi added 9 points while Eric Stazy and Kristopheroy Fojas chipped in 7 points a piece.

Notre Dame 53, Lake Park 50: With five seconds to go and the game knotted at 50-50, Notre Dame's Duante Stephens took matters into his own hands in capping a furious 16-point comeback.

Stephens stole Lake Park's inbound pass, dribbled up court and drained a 3-pointer as the horn sounded to give the Dons a 53-50 win Wednesday night in the Wheeling Hardwood Classic.

Lake Park got a game-high 14 points from Dominique Spencer, but he didn't look the same after leaving the game briefly in the third quarter with an ankle sprain. That's when the Dons took advantage.

"We average 40 points a game on defense," Lake Park coach Jesse Farder said. "We gave up 35 points in the second half alone. That just can't happen against as strong an opponent as these guys."

The Lancers looked to be clicking on all cylinders in a breakout second period when they went on a 16-0 tear to seize control. The Dons seemed to be reeling as their coach was called for a technical and forced to sit the rest of the game.

But turnovers including three in succession of one another in the fourth quarter cost the Lancers dearly as gritty defense by the Dons turned the game around.
