Jacobs can't shake rust vs. Barrington

A 19-day layoff between games did not benefit the Jacobs boys basketball team in a 61-40 nonconference loss at Barrington Tuesday.

Jacobs (1-3) fell behind 17-0 and trailed 20-2 after one quarter. The Golden Eagles outscored the Broncos 41-31 the rest of the game but could not over come the early hole they dug for themselves. Patrick Nerja led Jacobs with 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

"We'll get better," Jacobs coach Jim Hinkle said. "Our season is just beginning."

Jacobs and Barrington will meet again in pool play at the Jacobs Holiday Tournament on Dec. 20 at noon.

"I think we've got 'em just where we want 'em," Hinkle said of the rematch, tongue in cheek.

Jacobs plays a final tuneup before Saturday's tournament opener when the Golden Eagles welcome South Elgin for a nonconference title Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

Maine East 56, Streamwood 53: The Sabres took this road game in Park Ridge to overtime, but the Blue Demons pulled out the nonconference victory. Streamwood slipped to 2-7.

Harvest Christian Academy 64, Berean Baptist 58: John Vislisel had 22 points and 17 rebounds, Ulises Fragoso had 17 points and 5 rebounds and Stuart Wolff added 16 points and 3 assists for the triumphant Lions (4-7).
