Schaumburg library rated among top 20 in state

Residents of Schaumburg Township are making full use of their library, according to statistics that place Schaumburg Township District Library among the top 20 libraries in Illinois for circulation per capita.

The prominent listing resulted from a study by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, published in the August issue of American Libraries Magazine.

“Our community loves to read, and these numbers prove it,” said library director Stephanie Sarnoff. “We constantly strive to offer a wide selection of books, CDs, DVDs, computer software, and more, knowing we must appeal to all ages and a culturally diverse community.”

Each year, more than a million people walk through the library’s doors and check out over two million items, Sarnoff explained, adding the library owns nearly 700,000 items in all. These include books for toddlers through adults, fiction, nonfiction, reference books, audiovisual materials, computer software, and even museum passes.

“We hope more and more residents will realize the benefits of the library,” Sarnoff said. “Our books and other materials can be checked out for free, and you can’t beat that kind of deal.”
