‘Christmas Tree Forest’ coming to McHenry museum
Submitted by McHenry County Historical Society Museum
Visitors to the McHenry County Historical Society Museum, 6422 Main St., Union, will be treated to the wonder and brilliance of retro aluminum Christmas trees arranged in a forest of color and sparkling display beginning from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3.
Once again local Christmas memorabilia collector Dave Harms will be showcasing his extensive collection of trees dating back more than 50 years. Interspersed with the trees will be holiday advertising pieces, Santa displays and more than a few seasonal surprises. Several years ago Harms arranged to show his vast collection of aluminum collector trees at the museum. The display was so well received that he has returned for another showing.
The museum will remain open free to the public during the week throughout December, from 1 to 4 p.m. starting Monday, Dec. 5, weather permitting. Closed dates are Dec. 23, 26 and 30 but the public is encouraged to call the museum regarding admission.
In addition to the special retro “Christmas Tree Forest” display, the museum offers local history gifts in its gift shop, holiday music and on Saturday Dec. 3, tasty goodies to sample. On that date, join the members and friends of the McHenry County Historical Society at 2 p.m. as they gather to thank museum exhibits curator Grace Moline for her 20 years of service to the society.
