Lisle Kiwanis brighten birthdays for 6 needy kids through Humanitarian Service Project

The Kiwanis Club of Lisle donated $324 to the Humanitarian Service Project's (HSP) Children's Birthday Project (CBP), which will brighten the birthdays of 6 needy children. The club has been partnering with the HSP since 1995 to alleviate the suffering poverty brings through numerous sponsorships of impoverished residents of the Kane and Dupage counties, as well as donations towards the HSP's different programs.

The club was founded on the interest to better the community and has been devoted to serving since the very beginning. The members meet every Wednesday night at 7:30 pm (except for holidays) at the Lisle Hilton Hotel located on Warrenville Road and continues to invite potential members to visit these meetings. The Kiwanis Club of Lisle holds 4 major fundraising events throughout the year which are a Pancake Day, Beer Tent at Eyes to the Skies Festival, 4th of July Parade and Golf outings that allow them to continually give support to HSP and other worthy charities in the local area.

The funds donated will be used for HSP's Children's Birthday Project which provides a needy child ages 3-11 with a 25-30 lb. Birthday Box. Each box contains 6 new books, 6-15 new toys, stuffed animals, one new game, various other gifts such as bubbles, card games, mini toys, school supplies, and a Party-in-a-Box filled with all the items necessary to have a birthday party. The family is able to pick up the child's birthday package during the month of their birthday, which provides a memorable “Special Day” for an underprivileged child in our community. A sponsorship for a child is only $54 and also includes gifts at Christmas-time and back-to-school supplies. In addition, the child's family also becomes eligible for the HSP's summer-time Feed the Kids Program.

About The Humanitarian Service Project:

HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering Project, 1,264 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides 100 low-income families with groceries and fresh produce during the summer months. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive that benefited a total of 2,000 children by giving supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair and directly to schools and individual children.
