Conant improves to 2-0

A pair of 13-point scorers was hardly unlucky for Conant in its second game of the St. Viator boys basketball tournament on Tuesday night.

Josh Copher and Mitch Tednes scored 13 points apiece as the Cougars (2-0) rolled to a 51-31 victory over Walther Lutheran at Cahill Gym in Arlington Heights. Their next game is at 3:30 p.m. Friday against Highland Park.

Highland Park won its opening game of four-game, five-team tourney with a 59-26 win over Wheeling (0-2) as Jake Norcia scored a game-high 13 points. Sophomore Jeremy Stephani led the Wildcats with 11 points.

Maine West 54, Perspectives 37: Senior Conor Hart scored 29 points and senior Kevin Garcia added 16 points and hit four 3-pointers as Maine West (2-0) rolled in the Warrior Classic in Des Plaines.

Maine West resumes play in the tourney at 7:30 p.m. Friday when it hosts Maine South.

Christian Liberty 63, Holy Trinity 55: Senior Luke Comerouski scored 29 points to give Jed Bennett a successful head coaching debut at Christian Liberty in its Bison Classic Tournament opener at Buffalo Grove.

Mike Hennek had 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and Matt Litzenberger added 7 points and 4 assists for the Chargers.

Community college

A tip-in by freshman John Lorenz with one second left gave Harper College (5-2) a 66-65 nonconference win at Morton College.

Kyler Market had 20 points, Chris Hicks scored 15 and Lorenz added 14 for Harper.
