Scouting Wheaton Warrenville South girls basketball

Wheaton Warrenville South

Coach: Rob Kroehnke.

Last year: 22-9 overall, 12-2 (tied for first) in the DuPage Valley Conference; lost to Benet 42-34 in the Class 4A Naperville North regional final.

Top players: Kasey Gassensmith, sr., F; Meghan Waldron, so., G; Maggie Dansdill, so., F; Allie Zappia, jr., F; Krysta Watts, sr., F; Sierra Bisso, jr; Dana Miller, jr.

Scouting report: Kroehnke said this could be his fastest team yet. With most of the core returning from the DVC co-champs, Tigers could be fast starters, too. Gassensmith, recently committed to Truman State, averaged 10.7 points a year ago and returns stronger and with expanded shooting range. "Most kids you say they improve year to year," Kroehnke said. "She gets better like every three months." The sky is the limit for talented second-year point guard Waldron, who scored 23 points in the season opener. The backcourt depth will be tested as Kelly Langlas blew out her knee playing soccer in October. Dansdill is an athletic, aggressive sophomore, and Zappia has shown the potential to score in bunches. "We're definitely ahead of where we were last year," Kroehnke said. "It's going to come down to if we can put it all together."
