Scouting Addison Trail girls basketball

Coach: Rob Schader.

Last year: 16-12 overall, 6-6 (fourth) in the West Suburban Gold; lost to Bartlett 61-42 in the Class 4A Glenbard North regional semifinal.

Top players: Marissa Pezzopane, sr. F; Sara Tomasello, sr., G; JoAnn DiNatale, sr., G; Kelsey Horvath, jr.; Claudia Denigris, jr.; Tori Busse, jr.

Scouting report: What's the best news for the Blazers? Pezzopane's relatively clean bill of health is clearly the answer. The 6-foot-1 senior last June broke the big bone in her foot the same injury that forced NBA star Yao Ming to retire and missed all of volleyball season. It's healed enough for her to return, and Addison Trail should get Pezzopane and her 12.5 points and 7 rebounds from a year ago back by December. "She should dominate," Schader said. "I could see her scoring 15-20 points per game." The Blazers graduated talented guard Jazmin Little, but Schader said they should have more kids who can share ballhandling duties. DiNatale and Tomasello are third-year varsity players, and Tomasello takes over at point guard. Juniors Horvath and Denigris round out the starting five. "We're going to have to battle the first couple weeks without Marissa," Schader said. "Her playing is huge for us."
