Main Street Opera presents Christmas classic "Amahl and the Night Visitors"

Main Street Opera, the newest nonprofit musical organization in Chicago's northwest suburbs, presents the big voices and classic music of opera in a short, easy to understand format.

On Dec. 9-11, Main Street Opera is again collaborating with District 214 Community Education to bring "Amahl and the Night Visitors" by Gian Carlo Menotti, one of the most popular operas of all times, to the Forest View stage, 2121 S. Goebbert Drive in Arlington Heights.

Written in English, in 1951 for television, this is a timeless and inspiring story about a young shepherd boy who finds that through hope, selfless love and charity, miracles can happen.

We are pleased to announce that boy soprano, Henry Griffin, is cast in the title role of Amahl. Earlier this year, Henry was a soloist with Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus at Orchestra Hall, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Ravinia and will be appearing with the Lyric Opera in November 2011

Enjoy the three Kings in all their regality following their star, the shepherds and shepherdess' bringing them food, and the shepherdess' entertaining them with their dance.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Dec. 9-10, and 2 p.m. Dec. 11. Ticket prices are $13 in advance and $15 at the door. Call (847) 718-7720 for advance tickets.
