Craft fair and more coming to Schaumburg Library

Bargain hunters and craft fair goers will love the combined Craft Fair and Flea Market coming up Saturday, Nov. 26, at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg. What a great way to shop!

The Craft Fair and Flea Market takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Rasmussen Room on the second floor. Admission is free.

There will be numerous tables full of merchandise. Some will be bargain-priced, gently-used treasures, including (but not limited to) Christmas decorations, household articles and small appliances, children’s toys and clothes, books, videos, DVDs, knickknacks, jewelry, jackets, baby items and “like new” stuffed animals. Some of the flea market articles will be new, in the box or still sporting tags. There will also be craft tables with beautiful, handmade jewelry, original paintings and stenciled bags, mini Christmas stockings, scarves, picture frames and more. These are just a few of the many items for sale.

Three things to keep in mind if going to the Craft Fair and Flea Market: The price marked is the price you pay; cash and checks only will be accepted, as we will not have the capability to handle credit cards; and children ages 10 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

What else is coming your way at the library? The winter reading programs for all ages begin Dec. 1. Adults and teens sign up at the Readers’ Advisory Desk in the New Books and Fiction Room or at the Hoffman Estates or Hanover Park branch, while children sign up in Youth Services or at the branches.

Upcoming programs include an “Outside Winter Garden” workshop, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Hanover Park Branch, 1266 Irving Park Road. Peggy Garvin of Garvin Gardens will lead participants in making a festive winter garden centerpiece with evergreens, pinecones and red dogwood branches. Registration and a $20 fee is required.

Chef Lou Buchenot will demonstrate how to take holiday entertaining to the next level with “Holiday Entertaining: Canapes and Hors D’Oeuvres,” from 7:30 to 9 p.m., Monday, Dec. 5, in the Rasmussen South Room of the central library in Schaumburg. In addition to a fun cooking demonstration, he will provide recipes and samples.

Confused about e-readers and downloading books? Come to the “Downloadable eBook Class” from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 6, in the Rasmussen South Room at the central library. Library staff members will explain how to download eBooks from the library’s digital media collection and transfer them to your own portable device, including the Sony Reader, B&N nNook, the Apple iPad and the Amazon Kindle.

Need an escape without the hassle of driving? Hop on the library’s motor coach to see Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. The bus will leave the central library parking lot at 5:15 p.m. and return at 11:45 p.m. “The Magic Flute” is one of the most beloved works in Mozart’s operatic repertoires, and tells the story of a young couple’s journey to adulthood.

Many more events are coming your way at the library. Check them out at www.schaumburglibrary.org. To register, call (847) 923-3347. (No registration is necessary for the Craft Fair and Flea Market.)
