22 years is enough for Sears deal
I live in Carpentersville and am employed by District 300. I am not in favor of extending the Sears economic development agreement.
I have no quarrel with Sears. I am, however, exasperated with the arrogant attitude displayed by the Hoffman Estates village board and their position on the Sears EDA amendment.
For 22 years Hoffman Estates controlled the disbursement of tax dollars generated by the expansion of the Sears complex on Route 72. In 22 years there has never been one single audit that we know of concerning the disbursement of these tax dollars.
In 22 years very little funding has trickled down to District 300. Hoffman Estates justifies this by saying, “None of our children go to those schools ... why should we pay?”
Seriously? That makes it right? The facts speak for themselves. That parcel of land lies within the District 300 taxing boundaries regardless of who attends the schools. For 22 years Hoffman Estates has been enabling big business on the backs of 21,000 students.
Hoffman Estates controlled the “golden egg” for 22 years. It’s now time for honest debate over the use of those funds.
